Austin Outdoor Honored with Industry Awards for Work on duPont Building
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Austin Outdoor is proud to announce that its landscape installation work at the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust Building was honored with two awards – a state award, the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) Award of Excellence, and a national award, Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) Environmental Improvement Grand Award. Both awards recognize excellence performed in the landscape through quality work and materials. William Dellecker, executive vice president of Austin Outdoor, said, “We are proud to receive these awards for our work on such a unique and inspiring building. Working on the project was an honor in itself.”
The duPont Building’s landscape is focused on sustainability. It features a rooftop garden and open-air atrium that both incorporate drought-tolerant plants and drip irrigation supplied by three 10,000-gallon cistern tanks that collect rainfall. The rooftop garden landscape required more than 2,000 plants, rock, mulch and soil to be hoisted up by a telehandler machine one bucket at a time. The atrium featured two 22-foot, 1,200-pound Christmas Palms, which were brought in through the second-floor door and placed by hand.
Besides its work at the duPont Building, Austin Outdoor also received awards for its landscape maintenance work at Ocean Hammock, and its landscape installation work for a luxury residence, both located in Palm Coast, Fla. This year, Austin Outdoor won a total of five industry awards for its landscape work.
Austin Outdoor accepted the FNGLA awards during a banquet held at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando on Oct. 2, 2009. The PLANET awards were presented during a banquet at the Green Industry Conference on Oct. 30, 2009, in Louisville, Ky.
